Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Tuesday a supplementary budget draft to finance an emergency economic package aimed at cushioning the fallout from the coronavirus epidemic will be submitted to parliament next week.
Speaking at a Diet session, Abe said the package worth 108 trillion yen ($1 trillion), equivalent to about 20 percent of Japan’s gross domestic product, is “one of the world’s biggest” and defended the country’s response to the epidemic as not lagging behind other countries.
