The worldwide death toll from the new coronavirus has surpassed 100,000, a tally compiled by Johns Hopkins University showed Friday.
The data suggests that the coronavirus pandemic is not abating, as the number of deaths has doubled in just eight days after passing 50,000 on April 2.
France, Italy, Spain and the United States have reported more than 10,000 deaths each from the pneumonia-causing disease, while the number of infection cases worldwide has exceeded 1.6 million.
